The top 3 game adaptations of all time
Nowadays, it's not just books that are being used as models for movies and series, but more and more often video games as well. In this article, we present three tips from the GAMERS ONLY editorial team for your next series marathon or movie night, with which you can easily bring the world of your favorite game into your living room.
Arcane - Beautifully gloomy animation, not only for fans of the game
What originally began as an adaptation of the successful MMORPG League of Legends by Riot Games, not only fans of the game were thrilled after the series was released on Netflix. The beautifully dark animation, the complex characters, and the bittersweet story all play on a very high level. The story of the unequal sisters Vi and Powder, who suddenly find themselves on different sides in the divided city of Piltover, captivates you incredibly quickly. But other characters familiar from the game, such as Caitlyn, Jayce, Viktor, Heimerdinger and Ekko, also appear in the series.
Warcraft: The Beginning - Alliance vs. Horde?
The fantasy film is based on the first Warcraft real-time strategy game Warcraft: Orcs & Humans from 1994 by Blizzard Entertainment. Officially, the film of the Warcraft franchise was announced in 2006. However, it was not released until 10 years later. The Warcraft adaptation is set in the era of the First War and features two disparate heroes: Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel), a knight from the human city of Stormwind, and Durotan (Toby Kebbell) from the Orc race, son of the chieftain from the Frostwolf clan. The two are actually on opposite sides when a war breaks out in Azeroth. Especially fans of the Warcraft or World of Warcraft games will get their money's worth from the many Easter Eggs in the film.
The Witcher - Henry Cavill shines as the wizard Geralt
Admittedly, the world of "The Witcher" is actually based on the book series by Polish fantasy author Andrzej Sapkowski. However, the franchise only became really popular through the video games by CD Projekt Red. Fans of the game series get their money's worth, especially with the action scenes of the series adaptation. This is not least due to the star-studded title role, which is played by Henry Cavill. In the medieval fantasy world, the sorcerer Geralt von Riva not only has to fight monsters, but also face political intrigues and ultimately his own fate. The series now has two seasons on Netflix and is already a cult favorite among fans.
